He attended Duke University for his undergraduate and medical degrees before going on to complete a residency in Family Medicine at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. In 1988, he returned to Cherryville and established Cherryville Primary Care. In 2015, he opened Hometown Direct Care, the first direct primary care practice in the area, which now offers care in both Cherryville and Shelby, NC. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Clinical Lipidology. In 2015, he served as the President of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, and in 2020, he was selected as the North Carolina Family Physician of the Year by his peers! He was selected as the 2021 Cherryville Citizen of the Year.
